From the air, Goa is colour. An endless palette: green on green, blue, brown and grey. We are soon walking out of the small aircraft and past the terracotta figures, the sleeping dogs, and the small group of taxi drivers chattering softly. Now we are in a "Maruti Omni" taxi, along the river and then on the long narrow road to Baga. And all around us, on the ground, Goa is still endless colour, green on green, blue, brown and grey.
Little children with chubby cheeks pass us on their way to the Chubby Cheeks School. Buffaloes and cows graze dreamily in the fields. A calf looks curiously around him.

Palolem beach is Goa's most idyllic beach. A beautiful sweeping bay of white sand, fringed with palms with an island (Green Island) accessible at low tide. Palolem's once pristine beach is now compromised by the endless restaurants and beach huts that are tucked in the palms. But, all of the beach buildings are of bamboo construction; if only they didn't use blue plastic on the roofs! There are lots of facilities on hand, no party scene, but with several restaurants playing music, some of it live.

In North Goa, just jump in a taxi and head to Coco Beach. Negotiate your price first, and get the taxi driver to come back at the end of the day around 4 or 5pm.
I have been to Coco Beach a few times, but each time I have been, it is busier than the last.

The more people are found lying on the Goan beaches, the more you'll see fruit vendors with big baskets on their heads trying to make some business.
They're generally not too pushy; they simply inform you of the variety they have and then they move on.
