Interiors of Goan Country Mansion

Goan House Interior

The magnificence of Goan interior can be seen in the exemplary finishes and the choicest collection of furniture, furnishing and artifacts. Bavarian chandeliers that hung from the ceilings and Chinese porcelain that adorned the choicest of English furniture in Goan houses, is evidence that Goa's trade embraced several continents.
Furniture was varied in type, form and style. Most of the beautifully carved furniture was essentially in rosewood or mahogany, and sometimes teak. European and Chinese forms were used for the various couches tables consoles, sideboards, dressers, fourposter beds and  chaises de lounges that were made by Goan artisans, who used both a very Indian and sometimes a Chinese,  repertoire for the embellisment. The resulting intricately carved furniture was of a very unique style indeed. Gilt tables incorporating porcelain tiles were also fairly common. Care was takento coordinate all the furniture in a room.
As for the furnishings, a pronouncedly feminine inspiration dictated the delection of lace and embroidered fabrics. In the salas, silk, barcode and lace curtains fluttered in the window openings while bedroom canopies were decorated with fine handmade lace, embroidery, fringes and tassels.
