Overview

The Shri Shanta Durga Temple in Goa is situated at the foothill of Kavalem. The temple is dedicated to the very powerful Hindu Goddess Shantadurga, who is just another form of Goddess Parvati. It is believed that Shantadurga mediated between Vishnu and Shiva and ended the long fierce battle between the two gods. Thus, the temple was built to honour Shantadurga.

The original temple was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1564, after which the venue was shifted to kavelem. The temple is one of the most beautiful ones is Goa. The total area of the premise houses three small temples along with the main temple. The temple is very famous for its pyramid like roofs, enchanting pillars and a huge tank. Besides, the temple also consists of Guesthouses, which along with the whole temple is covered by rich green vegetation. A perfect surrounding for a devotional mind.
