Overview
This stunning whitewashed church lords it over the Municipal Gardens in the town center.
One of the first Churches to be built in Goa, Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception was consecrated around 1541. The Church served as a landmark for sailors to offer thanks for a safe landing.
By 1850s the land in front of the church was reclaimed and the distinctive criss-crossing staircases were added in the late 19th century
The Church is beautifully illuminated in the lead up to Christmas and during the Feat of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, which illuminated on 8th December.
Mass is held here daily in English, Konkani and Portuguese.
