Overview

The Convent and the Church of St. John of God reflects the Christian values of 18th century Goa. And, the travelers do not usually want to miss out this church when they opt for church tours in Goa. The church has got an interesting history. It is a simple looking building and thus the architecture might not be engaging enough for the travelers. But the church is known to attract visitors for its immense historical significance. The church was under the administration of the Society of the Misericordia for quite some time. Unfortunately, the convent was abolished in the year 1835. The Convent and the Church of St. John of God was set up as a tribute to Our Lady of Good Success. It was built in 1685 AD. With time the church lost its significance. In 1834, the nuns of St Monica took charge of the church. The church complex was used as a residence by the order of the St Monica nuns. Thus, the Convent and the Church of St. John of God was converted into a residence complex for the confessors and chaplains
