If you want peace, solitude and relaxation, Mandrem-Morjim in Pernem, Goa’s northernmost and least developed taluka, is for you. Whatever tourism exists here has been built purely on the enterprise of the locals, with little or no help from the state government. Many of the areas are out of range for cellphones.
The beach stretches across three hamlets: Mandrem, Ashwem and Morjim. Divided by little creeks, these are spectacular windswept stretches of sand. The crowds that throng the beaches south of the Chapora River, which separates Pernem from Bardez Taluka, are absent. Even the beach vendors, who usually reach wherever there’s a potential customer, are hardly to be found here.
