Pre – Portuguese, this Benaulim village was called ‘Bannali’ means the place marked by arrow, this has the reference to Parashuram, who shot the arrow from the top of the Sahyadri Mountains into the sea to mark the shoreline of the new land that would become Goa.
Things to see
Located on a hilltop beyond Benaulim village, the Church of St John the Baptist is worth a visit in Benaulim. Every monsoon, the feast of St John the Baptist (Sao Joao) draws numerous tourists to the church.
Bullfights Another of the stellar attractions at Benaulim Beach is the exciting bullfights at held from early October to late May.
The Beach Bonanza fair held on consecutive Sundays from mid-April onwards on the Benaulim Beach is a must see for tourists here.
